It is located in the southeastern part of the island. It forms part of the Abona and Chasna district and has a population of 8,000 inhabitants. At one point in time, its economy was based on agriculture &#8211; a way of life inherited from the original Guanche people \u2013 fishing and woodwork. Today, although these activities are now less important, they still continue, like the cultivation of grapevines, tomatoes and vegetables. Other highlights are the area\u2019s masonry, water tunnels and wells, and renewable energy (especially wind). On its coast, several communities are dedicated to vacation and family tourism (e.g. El Por\u00eds, Abades or Las Maretas) and in the foothills of the interior dwellings and villages can be found that The house is approximately 200 years old. Its construction and its current site was geared towards multiple use of the terrain, which was cultivated in a diverse, intelligent and sustainable way.<\/p>\n<p>The old caves have been preserved in its volcanic walls, which were initially used as dwellings and later for storing grain, other agricultural produce and tools. Today, they are in use as wineries and as a small space to eat or to share moments with friends and family.<\/p>\n<p>The original drinking basins carved in stone have been preserved, as well as the original architecture of the house and the walking trails that lead to the house and to old aquaducts that were so important in days gone by. In Las Vigas we try to remain authentic and honest to our roots. We keep alive some traditions such as, for example, the cultivation of claret wine. We have also conserved elements that narrate the history of the place, like the caves beneath the volcanic plate, the main house (which has been restored while respecting its originality and by using materials with which it was originally constructed), the patios, the outdoor entrances and the niche for the virgen Mary. We also organise workshops and other activities related to the local history and culture for guests and day
